As defending nationa! champs, the men’s and women’s squads have their work cut cut for them chis season as all teams will be gunning for them, but early indications are thar bork: sides are up to the task. In season-opening action Sunday, the men’s team downed Malaspina 4-1, while the women’s squad beat the Nanaimo- based college 4-2. And in pre-season tournament action, the Capilane women finished second in the UCFV International Tournament, In round robin action, the Blues downed Shoreline 5-1, thumped Lower Columbia 9-1, and edged the host team 2- 1 in the tournament final, the Blues fost to UCC 2-1. WV Club receives grant money THE West Vancouver Lawn Bowling Club has received $16,656 as first payment of a $50,000 Community Projects award to help construct a new club- house. ‘The West Vancouver Lawn Bowling Chub, located ar Memonal Park, has been in operation’ since 1934 and presently has 426 members. “The old clubhouse was over 50 years old and had deteriorated to the point where it was no longer practi- cal or safe to repair it,” said Small Business, Tourism and Cultural = Minister Jan Pullinger. “The new facility will offer two indoor carpet bowling rinks, meeting space, a kitchen and public wash- rooms.” “Over the past four years, the club has been raising funds towards this project,” said Tom Reid, chair of the club’s building committee. “With the generous assistance of the province, the District of West Vancouver and_ the Ambleside-Tiddicy Cove Lions Club, the new faciity is now under construction.” The Community Projects program is managed by the Ministry of Small Business, Tourism and Culture.
