Career cheers Dear Editor: 1 want to thank the North Shore News for its excellent Career Education supplement. The support from your paper, along with that from Human Resource Development Canada, Capilano College and the Chamber of Commerce, helped make the Career/College open house at Capilano College a success. Approximately 1,000 students from North and West Vancouver, Howe Sound and the Sunshine Coast came to the event. As a result they now have a better awareness of the education and career opportunities available to ther after graduation. John Ludgate District Principal/Career Education and Extension Programs North Shore Continuing Education Constable defended Dear Editor: Let's be fair to our peace officers. These days it seems that too many people want to point a finger at them. I attended a Block Watch information meeting conduct- ed by Constable Glen Mason. I found him to be very polite, informative, and friendly and nothing he said or did in any way made me feel threatened or “traumatized.” On the contrary, 1 felt relieved to hear that this pro- gram, supported by our police department, was in place for our protection. Not having attended the meeting which led to the com- plaint against Const. Mason, | cannot comment on it, but there must be many like me in West Vancouver who have lis- tened to the constable, and have appreciated his efforts. Perhaps it is time they spoke up in his defence? I am sincerely sorry the lady involved was so fright- ened by the sight of a gun, but is that an accepted reason to damage a young man's career? Not in my book. Mrs. B. Pope Westmount Open police hearings Dear Editor: Re: Anna Marie D’Angelo’s April 17 News report regarding the suspended West Vancouver Police consta- ble.
