Her favorite actress is Julia Roberts. UNIVERSITY OF B.C. (UBC) education professor Dr. Linda Peterat is cur- rently conducting a study of student experiences in home economics and family studies courses and is hop- ing to talk to students who have taken the courses over the past 20 years. Peterat is one of four pro- fessors across Canada working together to collect stories of stu- dents’ experiences in home eco- nomics and family studies classes. She said that because of a lack of research in the area very little is known about how useful home economics and family studies courses are to students who take them. Peterat said that students either fove or hate the subject and that experiences have either been very positive or very negative. She wants to examine the dif- ferent opinions to find out more about people’s experiences and why those experiences in home economic courses have been good and memorable but not so good for others. Peterat said she expects the in- formation will be valuable in con- sidering the future of family studies and home economic courses in the school curriculum. She is hoping to talk to women, but especially men, who have taken the courses over the past 20 years. The courses could have been called food science, food and nutrition, life skills, family management, child studies, family life, iextiles and clothing or many similar titles. Participants will be asked to complete a questionnaire asking the following questions: @ what course or courses did you take?
