24 — Wednesday, August 7, 1991 - North Shore News BEVERYTHING stops for tea...Forster's at the Emerald Park Lodge in North Vancouver is now serving afternoon tea. NEWS photo Mike Wakelield Summer bits and bites the Anchor in drops anchor again; and Table Hopp- FH ean goes British; the Beach Club goes south; ing staff hit the summer streets in the Table Hopping van in search of some lighter summer dining fare. The regular four-course review will return in the next Table Hop- ping episede. FORSTER’S, 350 EAST 2ND ST. NORTH VANCOUVER, 988- 8353 In the grand traditions of Col. Alfred St. George Hamersley, the fermer lord of the Emerald Park manor, Forster’s is now serving an afternoon tea from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Trays of clotted cream, scones, fresh berries and jams abound. Don’t forget the Earl Grey tea and a stiff salute for the colonel at the door. Ripping stuff, wot? THE NEW ANCHOR IN, 1301 LONSDALE AVE., NORTH VANCOUVER, 980-9508 As all paid up members are probably well aware, the Beach Club has closed its doors, right in the midst of major beach time too, dudes. The Club opened with a flourish of witd interior and exterior decor provided by the Mad Artist, but management failed to follow through with much for the dining customer. But while the C/ub is out, the /n is in.” Jochen Voss, whose original Anchor Inclosed its doors May 14 overlooking the Lynnwood Marina, plans to reopen his res- taurant in the old Beach Club location this week. Voss will be accompanied by his original Anchor In staff. He will also be accompanied by a menu that will feature the same substantial German-style cuisine that established such a loyal An- chor In following at its Lynnwood location: Peppersteak Flambe ($11.50), Duck Schwarzwald ($10.95), Eisbein (9.50), Rinds Rouladen ($10.75), and 11 schnitzel variations ($9.25 to $10.75). What Voss won't be accom- panied by is the old Beach Club Timothy Renshaw TABLE HOPPING beach babe murals. They have been dispatched to the graveyard of bizarre decorating ideas in the sky. A fuil Table Hopping critique will follow the in‘s opening. THE BEACH SIDE CAFE, 1362 MARINE DRIVE, WEST VAN- COUVER, 925-1945 Table Hopping’s choice for best all-round restaurant last year has a new dinner menu and wine list that should pique diners’ interests. Appetizers include Tomato, Jalapeno and Cilantro soup ($3.50), Warm Goat Cheese Saiad with endive and sundried tomato vinaigrette ($5.95), Carpaccio ($6.95) and Baked Cambozola in Hazelnut Crust with roasted garlic and toast points ($6.50). Entrees (price range $11 to $17): Stir-fried prawns in Thai Curry ($14.95); Danish Back Ribs with orange soya glaze ($12.95); Chicken Breast marinated fin Tua- doori spices with coconut Basmati rice and fruit chutney ($12.95); fillet of Beef Tenderloin, Oyster Mushrooms and Horseradish cream with garlic mashed potatoes ($16.95); and much more. The new Beach Side wine list (primarily $17 to $50) has strong representation from the United States; sc me interesting bottles are also available from France, Italy, Australia, Chile and B.C. The R>--4 Sideis one of the North Shore’s best restaurants; the new menu should be worth sampling. MUSICAL MEALS: Peppi’s (150-25th St. in West Vancouver, 922-1414) is now featuring live jazz every Thursday, Friday and Saturday night. DINING DISCOED: There is dining dissatisfaction afoot. A recent experience at a local Lower Lonsdale restaurant prompted a patron to deliver a portion of his meal to the Table Hopping offices. And believe me folks, it was not a pretty sight. Evelyn and Karl Schneider report that they took their family to the Jagerhof restaurant for some prime Wiener Schnitzel. But the schnitzel they received, they say, was not prime. They were disappointed with what they were served, they being Wiener Schnitzel connoisseurs. Mrs. Schneider reports that she was presented with something that ‘looked like a napkin wrap- ped in breading.” The waitress was called. She was dispatched to negotiate with Jagerhot management for a proper schnitzel. But, according to Mrs. Schneider, she returned with offers of a refund, not a new schnitzel. But Alex Doubrava, jagerhof’s long-time owner, says his restau- rant has been making schnitzels like the one served to the Schneiders for the past 12 years and has never had any complaints. Schnitzel, he said, is supposed to be thin. Doubrava added that the Schneiders enthusiastically down- ed two of the three meals served to them on the fateful evening. The offending meal, he said, was taken off their bill. Past Table Hopping experiences at Jagerhof have been good. So it is up to other schnitzel lovers to settle the debate: head to the fage hof, down a schnitzel and file your observations with Table Hopping in a letter. The results will be reported later in this space. PARK ROYAL ... For the largest selection of NATURALIZER shoes under one roof.
