38 - Wednesday, November 21 , 1990 — North Shore News entertainment Paper exhibit on display ANCIENT WAYS, New Hopes, a 31-piece exhibit of color and black and white photographs, line draw- ings and maps illustrating the steps in paper and greeting card pro- duction by natives of Nepal, opens Sunday night at Park Royal Mall. With the support of a UNICEF community develepment project, the ancient craft of paper-making and woodblock printing has been revived in Nepal. Some of the photographs feature the UNICEF- assisted Nepal paper-making pro- ject and others capture stunning views of the countryside and peo- ple. Money raised by the sale of UNICEF cards help to fund devel- opment projects in J2) countries. Greeting cards will be sold at the Park Royal exhibit, which con- tinues until Nov. 30. Hours are It a.m.-5 p.m. Work on West Van library expected VOLUNTEERS HAVE ratsed close to $2 million from the private sector which will go towards work on a $5-million addition to the West Vancouver Memorial Library, expected to begin eariy in 1991, library board chairman Dr. Robert Wyckham announced Nov. 10 at a gala event marking the library's 40th birthday. “Denations are still needed to ensure that the new addition is appropriately furnished and equipped,” said Wyckham, ‘but (West Vancouver) municipal council has given us its comment to proceed with to begin construction of the project." The Memorial library has ex- panded three times to ac- comodate growth. The current project will relieve crowded conditions currently being expe- rienced by library staff. and patrons, and will permit 20,000 items stored off-site to be restored to the collection. The expansion will double the existing floor space and = ac- commodate anticipated service and collection growth for the next 20 years. At the same time, older sections of the building will be renovated to comply with soon 8.C. Building Code standards. The plan includes improved handicapped access to ail parts of the building, a section specifically designed for teens and expanded meeting room ia- cilities. The library kicked off their fund raising campaign on Oct 29, 1989.
