The new supercharged V-6

engine, which drives the Cougar
° XR7, is rated at 210 horsepower —
capable of powering the car from
0-to-~100 kilometres per hour in 7.1
seconds when teamed with a
standard five-speed manual over-
drive transmission. A four-speed
automatic transmission is optional.

The XR7 also features a new
automatic/firm ride control
suspension system and 406 mm
(16-inch) aluminum wheels with
P225/60VRI6 black side-wall per-
formance tires. XR7 stops as easily
as it goes, with standard, four-
wheel disc’ brakes and an anti-lock,
brake system.

XR7 has sport seats with power
side bolster adjustment and power
lumbar. A new split-fold rear seat
option allows hatchback-type, rear
cargo-carrying cap ability.

New options available on both
1989 Cougar models include the
Ford JBL audio system with or
without compact digital disc
player, automatic day/night rear-
view mirror added to the headlamp
convenience group, and an anti-
theft alarm system.

The anti-lock brake system is
optional on the LS, and an all-
season tread is available in a choice
of four standard of seven clearcoat
metallic colors, while the XR7 is
available in black, oxford white or
bright red
