THE DEADLINE for this year’s nominations for the
1988 YWCA Women of Distinction Awards is coming
up fast.

Nominations must be in by Feb. 19. Any woman in
the Greater Vancouver area who has made or is mak-
ing a significant and sustaincd contribution in at Icast
one of seven categories may be nominated.

The categories are: Arts and Culture; Communica-
tions and Public Affairs; Community and Humani-

tarian Service; Entreprencur/Innovator; Health and
Education; Management and The Professions; Sports,
Recreation and Fitness.

The awards program began locally in 1984. Winners
are chosen by an independent panel of judges.

A gala awards dinner is scheduled for May 26 at the
Regency Ballrooom in the Vancouver Hyatt Regency.

Alcoholics Anonymous holds round-up

ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS
(AA) presents the {6th annual
North Shore Round-up at the
Hyatt Regancy Hotel this
weekend.

Each year around this time
North Shore groups of AA put on
this Celebration of Sobricty.

This year she celebration begins
at 7:30 p.m., Friday, Feb. 19, with
a world-class speaker on the sub-
ject Laughter, A Great Healer.
The convention continucs on

Saturday, Feb. 20.

The round-ups generally cater to
a crowd of 2,000 or more people
and consist of a weekend full of
meetings centred around = such
topics as: Willingness —- the Key,
Living and Loving Sober, Alone in
a Crowded Convention, and | am
Responsible. Al-Anon and Alatcen
meetings are also held.

All meetings are open to the
public. Registration fee is $15 and
tickets are available at most AA
