whether I should present my coupon to

the waiter at the beginning of the evening or casual-
ly ship it under my charge card when given the bill.

If I show my coupon right
away will I be labelled a
“‘cheapo”’ rather than a

‘regular diner? And, as such,

not get the best food or ser-
vice available.

Despite all my misgivings |!
decided to use a tw for one
coupon I came across in Fhe
News for Guppy’s restaurant
on East 2nd in North
Vancouver.

The reason for trying out

wanted to see the response |
would receive when presen-
ting a coupon as part pay-
ment for my dinner.

My wife and I were met by
a very charming young lady
who escorted us to our table.
This pleasant young lady also
turned out to be our waitress.
lt was a nice start to the
evening.

We ordered two glasses of
white wine and shared the
pacific shrimp cocktail
($4.60). There was an abun-
dance of shrimp and the spicy
cocktail sauce was excellent.

We followed this up with a
main course of filet of sdle
almandine ($11.90) and
sauteed prawns ($13.95).
Each came with fresh
vegetables and potatoes.
Both were very generous siz-
ed portions.

For dessert we shared a
dish of fresh strawberries
with whipped cream on top
($2.95).

When | asked for the bill |
nervously gave the waitress
the coupon | had brought
with me. She accepted it will-
ingly with no hint of disdain.

The bill for the two of us,

less coupon and_ including
three glasses of wine, was
$32.40.
