A CONTINUING cabinet crisis over the fate of
Expo ‘86 has delayed a meeting between Lower
Mainland mayors and a provincial government
cabinet committee over the question of police
delivery of criminal court documents.

Mayor Jack Loucks of
North Vancouver City said
the group has been told there
is a possibilty the meeting
with the committee, chaired

by Grace McCarthy, might
be held this Friday in
Vancouver.

If not, a meeting will
likely be held next week in
Victoria

“*l can see why they didn't
meet with us on
Wednesday,’ Loucks said
this week. ‘‘They have a few
problems on their plate right
now and they've given ours a
lower priority

Loucks said the delay in
the meeting of the municipal
officials and the provincial
government representatives
is understandable but that he
is looking forward to a
meeting at which time the
municipal position can be
presented

the Lower Mainland = are
protesting the April ] change
in policy which sees the re-
sponsibility for delivering

such criminal court docu-
ments as summonses swit-
ched from the provincial

sheriffs to municipal police
forces

by 28 per cent. Loucks has
said that cut does not rep-
resent restraint but 1s a case
of the provincial government
dumping the cost of docu-

ment service onto the
municipalities.
There has been conflict

between the province and the
municipalities over the cost
of the mew = service with
municipalities claiming it
will cost tens of thousands
of dollars a year to deliver
the court papers and Smith
saying the cost impact would
be minimal.

A 13-year-old) North
Vancouver boy found that
out Tuesday afternoon

The youth was standing
on the corner of 17th and
Lonsdale when he was ap-
proached by an older male
who asked if the boy wanted

to trade the leather jacket he
was wearing for a new radio
and a quantity of drugs.

The boy agreed and
handed his jacket to the
man, who said he was going
tor the radio and drugs and
who disappeared into a
nearby apartment building

Not surprisingly, he didn’t
reappear, leaving one angry
13-year-old coatless on the
streets.
