B3 - Sunday, January 1, 1984 - North Shore News Clansmen coach going to Olympics SIMON FRASER University tling head coach Mike Jones and Jim Humphrey, the Canadian national wrestl- ing team coach, have been appointed as Canada’s Olym- pic wrestling coaches for the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, California, the Canadian Amateur Wrestling Association announced recently. A native of Lebanon, Oregon, Jones provides the Canadian’ program with an extensive amount of wrestl- ing experience. As a former athlete, Jones was a three- time U.S. Greco National Champion (’72-’73-'75) and the U.S. Freestyle National Champion in 1974, along with being a two-time NCAA national runner-up in 1971 and 1973. Jones, in his eighth year as the Clan’s head wrestling coach, also coached the Canadian World Team in 1982, as well as the World Cup Squad in 1983. Last season, Jones directed the Simon Fraser Clansmen to a second-place finish at. the NAIA National Champion- ships in Minot, North Dakota, where three Clan wrestlers — Chris Rinke, Bob Molle and Dave McKay — all won individual champion- ships in their respective weight categories.
