review

EXCEPT FOR our Petite C
and Tween A ringette teams,
our girls suffered the same
fate as the B.C. Lions! All
the games were good, hard
fought ones, but we didn’t
quite come out on top!

The Petite A team, under
the superb coaching of Beth
Bennett, has greatly improv-
ed and were ahead of
Aldergrove at half time.
However, they were unable
to keep up the pace and lost
the game 8-3.

Petite C beat the younger
N.S.W.C. Bunnies by quite a
margin again. Hopefully the
ages of these two teams can
be evened up to make better
competition for both.

Our Team A won over
Aldergrove 8-1.

Tween B’s lost their first
game of the season to the
NSW C. with a score of
4-1 Belle B fl team also suf-
tered thew first defeat in a
close, well fought game with
the POCO Shoppers Drug
Mart team, 86

perhaps aided just a
bit by her five goals.

Rival brewers battle

TWO OF the six matches
scheduled, as the Coaches’
Soccer League completed the
first half of its season, had
rival Brewery teams meeting
head on.

Feature match of the day
saw Labatts take On Carlings
and, although the two are
widely separated in the stan-
dings, the game was close and
competitive with Carlings
coming out on top by a score
of 2-0 on goals by Bryan Bird
and Pete Cantelo. Mark
Pender was unlucky not to
put Labatts on the
scoreboard as he shot just
high on a good chance, while
Andy Taylor and Detlev
Schultz in the backline and
lan Lowrie and Alan Cowdie
in midfield were outstanding

in a losing cause.

The other ‘‘Brewers’ Der-
by’’ ended in an identical 2-0
score for Iron Horse over
Molsons as the winners main-

tained their unblemished
record at the top of the
standings.

North Shore Nissan also
came oul on the long end of a
2-0 score as they blanked Ray
Johnson Plumbing. Strikers
Anston Pratt and Harald
Bonkowski notched = goals,
while defenders Dave Sawley
and Frank Wilson made goal-
keeper John Defazio’s day
relatively quiet as he posted
his second shutout.

Lynnwood Hotel broke a
second place tie with Aard-
quin Construction by
defeating them 3-1. Aardquin

scored first, but Lynnwood
‘keeper Peter Nagy kept the
score close until Bill Smith,
Don McLean and Ted Budai
could find the net.

In other action, Totem-
color and Soccerwest struggl-
ed to a 2-2 draw, while Eagle
Harbour swamped Olympia
Gold Caps 5-2.
