Today’s Feature Home is a
very different kind of
apartment. It belongs to
Grant and Deborah Gar-
diner dnd was designed by
Bob Hassel. Even before the
Gardiners renovated it, the
centrally located building
won an architect’s award for
design.

One and a half years ago.
Grant and Deborah were out
looking for a house and just
happened to drive by the
apartment. They saw great
potential in it and liked the
idea that it was close to
everything, so, of course.
they bought it.

Although it is an apart-
ment, it has many of the
features found in houses
such as a backyard, a huge
sundeck, lots of room, and a
stunning. city and harbour
view as well.

After purchasing the three
bedroom suite, Grant and
Deborah proceeded to in-
stall custom-made _ kitchen
cabinets and an oak floor.
They took down the ground
level deck and constructed a
back yard which resembles a
Japanese garden. Then they
enlarged the upper deck and
filled in the open space
above the living room to
create a sunken’ master
bedroom.

The main entrance hall
seemed a little small, so the
Gardiners knocked out the
hall closet which gives a
much more open feeling. To
improve the living room, it
was finished off with grey
washed cedar _ boards.
Working their way through
the apartment, slim venetian
blinds were added as well as
new carpets.

For the future, the
Gardiners plan to finish off
the two other bedrooms and
improve the garden with
moss and ivy.
