MEDIATION _ talks
between management
and employees of
North Shore Neigh-
bourhood House began
last week with the 25
employees in a legal
strike position.
Neighbourhood House
Director Helen Jones
refused to comment on the
labor dispute during
mediation, but a
representative of the Ser-
vice, Office and Retail
Workers Union said non-

monetary matters were still
in dispute.

The union and
management. have already
agreed on an eight per cent
wage increase, said Jenny
Moses from the union. She
called the wage agreement a
substantial concession on
the part of the union.

The mediation talks began
November 16, and what
Jones called “a nice long
meeting” was held on the
19th. Another meeting was
scheduled for November 28,
she told the News.

Hours of work are also at
issue, said Moses. Neigh-
bourhood House wants the
employees to work split
shifts, while the union is
against that.

She said overtime wages
for part time workers, job
descriptions and grievance
procedures have yet to be
negotiated as well.

Moses said the union is
angry that Neighbourhood
House hired a professional
negotiator.
