Gray emphasized the ‘‘colonial
attitude’’ of Canadians as being
one of the largest coniributing fac-
tors to the disintegration of Cana-
dian culture. A colon‘al attitude,
he said, implies Canarlians think
their culture second to the
mother/father empire.

Gray pointed out hat we buy
most of our televisicn. programm-
ing from the States en. the majer-
ity of Canadians watch TV. How
much of that programming ad-
dresses Canadian issues or culture
and how many Canadians are con-
trolled by American television were
questions he asked.

Members of the audience
described the talk as thought-
provoking.

Newly-elected president Judy
Dennis. is a 30-year resident of
West Vancouver and an interior .
designer by profession. She brings
to the job a diverse range of skills
and experience in her history of
community involvement. :

Past president Joseph Cantafio
and wife Danielle were presented
with corsages as a special thanks
for their cooperative spirit and ef-
forts over the busy past year. Can-
tafio will be well remembered as a
driving force behind the sculpture
in the Lonsdale Quay Waterfront
Park.

Hard-working North Vancouver
resident Rete McKay was honored
with the first award of merit for
her valuable contributions to the
cultural life of North Vancouver.
Jack and Jean McCormack were
also pinned with corsages for their
dedication and hard work. Jack
McCormack stepped down this
year after a full seven-year term.
