Ready or not, it looks likely that Clyde Mitchell is about to make it happen. The popular Canadian con- ductor is leaving his nine-year position with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra (VSO) in August and is looking to create something himself. His plans call inquiring reporter for hiring “the very best of freelance players” for a series of two concerts a month. The first would be a formal Saturday evening event at North Vancouver's Centennial Theatre with a repeat afternoon perfor- mance in the less formal surroundings of West Vancouver United Church. The gala opening is already planned for September 23 and 24 and will feature violinist Gwen Hocbig and works by Michael Conway Baker and Jean Coulthard as well as Vivaldi’s Four Seasons.
