This year the focus is on the Caulfeild and Horseshoe Bay areas. CAN-ASIAN FUND THE CAN-Asian Fund is designed to take advantage of the dramatic growth taking place in Asian eco- nomics. By using a combination of Ca- nadian T-bills and stock index futures contracts, as well as other derivative securities from the Asian region, Asian cquity per- formance is attained in Canadian dollars, Full RRSP eligibility is also maintained and there is no cur- rency conversion risk. This method of replicating stock index performance in Canadian dollazs is gaining wide acceptance by many Canadian pension and mutual funds due to liquidity and low cost. The cost of running a fund us- ing derivatives is minimized with the use of futures contracts since they are less expensive to acquire than actual stocks. The equity markets which may be represented in the fund from time to time will include Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, Japan, Korea, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philip- pines and other countries of the region as their markets become developed enough to allow for external investment. The Can-Asian Fund is managed by Newcastle Capital Management Inc. RECYCLING CONTRACT A VANCOUVER-based computer supplies company, owned by a North Shore resident, has been awarded a $1.2 million contract by the B.C. When we initially introduced the program, recyclable toner car- tridges represented about 7% of the total cartridges used in the system. “Now, they represent more than 40% of all cartridges used.’* Find out who’s in the SPOTLIGRT every Wednesday in the North Shore News FINANCIAL TIP THE FOLLOWING financial tip is supplied by the North Store Credit Union, Many people do not contribute to an RRSP because they fecl their company pension is sufficient. In today's dollars, the payment may seem sufficient but inflation must be considered. Canada has an historic average projected. rate of inflation of about 5%. In- flation reduces the spending power of the retirement dollar and it is out of your control. An RRSP can make up the difference and help maintain your lifestyle.
