offerings which promise to

We begin our non-fictional
foreplay with that blockbuster bi-
ble of the boudoir, The Kinsey
institute New Report On Sex
(St. Martin's Press/McClelland &
Stewart; $29.95}, quite possibly
the most authoritative popular text
on human sexuality available to-
day.

Not only is The Kinsey Institute
New Report On Sex 2 survey of
who’s doing what with whom ~
and how often — but its 540 pages
are fairly tumescent with the ins
and outs of passionate diversity.

But there is of course more to
coming to sweaty grips with love
than mere mechanics: what about
those perilous pitfalls of relation-
ships themselves?

Ellen Kreidman’s Light His Fire
— How Yo Keep Your Man Hope-
lessly and Passionately In Love
With You now has a predictable
sequel raising its head in
bookstores from one end of the
continent to the other: Light Her
Fire — How To Ignite Passion and
Excitement In The Woman You
Love.

Light Her Fire Villard/Random
House; 228 pp.; $24.95) is, I'm sad
to report, nowhere near as incen-
diary as this prolific pyromaniac of
post-pubescent passion would
have us believe.

In fact, Light Her Fire is little
more than a loose compilation of
gushing testimonials (written by
women and men whose marriages
have allegedly been saved by
Kreidman), brief case histories,
do’s and don'ts in the marital
minefield and nothing more
salacious - or useful - than simple
common sense.

if you’re already considerate and
attentive, Light Her Fire is strictly a
false alarm.

Bob Berkowitz’s What Men
Won’t Teil You But Women
Need To Know (Mor-
row/McClelland & Stewart; 203
pp.: $23.95} is similarly limp
despite its promise to lift the edge
of the tesiosterone curtain and
reveal the true nature of men (a
terrifying prospect that has some
of us very worried indeed.)

The dust jacket blurb claims that
What Men Won't Tell You But
Women Need To Know is “the
ultimate insider's guide to men”
(do we detect‘a double entendre?)
written by a chap whose main
“qualification” seems to be that
he hosts “‘a nightly talk program
on the Financial News Network’.

Roll over. Rorschach: maybe
there’s more to those peaks and

In Fact, Fantasy and Fiction
(Shapolsky/McGraw-Hill Ryerson:
124 pp.: $41.95).

Taboo No More is a scholarly
and well researched combination
of text and pictures (lots and fots
of pictures) that some will find in-
formative, others titillating or even
pornographic but it isa genuine if
puckish examination (cough,
please) of the role the phallus has
played in art, folklore and social!
attitudes throughout history.

If you‘ve ever been curious as to
just how high eyebrows really can
go, flipping through Taboo No
tore while riding public transit
should do the trick.
