SCHOOL GPENS IN NV

Japanese karate taught

NORTH VANCOUVER is to be
the home of a new dojo (school in
Japanese), the Japan Karate
Association recently announced.

The karate is taught in a tradi-
tional Japanese atmosphere with
an emphasis on healthy personal
growth and lifestyle improvement,
said Rick Chernoff, the sensei or
chief instructor of the new school.

A third degree black belt, Cher-
noff maintains karate develops
self-discipline, confidence and
fitness.

for all ages from seven years old
and up. Parents and children are
encouraged to enrol in the same
classes together.

The dojo will be opening Jan. 2,
1990 at the Y.M.C.A., located at
440 Hendry Avenue.

one-metre event, Baldwin finished
second, Bell finished fourth, Bur-
rows placed sixth and Kirsty Con-
nolly tenth.

And in the girls nine years old
and under one-metre event,
Morgan McRae finished in first
place.
