ing Aug. 31, regional conservation
officers fielded 130 black bear
complaints from North Shore resi-
dents.

During the same period, about
five bears were shot Iecally and
seven more were captured and
relocated.

The more troublesome bears are
those that have beccme dependent
on garbage. To avoid unnecessary
contact with a prowling bear, resi-
dents should supervise children at
all times while outside and store
garbage containers in secure areas.
Bears are unpredictable and they
are opportunists.
