North Vancouver City opposes transit levy DON’T COME LOOKING to the City of North Van- couver for more money to pay for transit. That is the message city council will be sending B.C. Transit. In a response to a letter from transit vice-president Larry Ward, council decided Monday te say it was opposed to any added municipal levies being used to help fund the transit system, At the same time, council will advise transit authorities there should be no change in concession fares, which ure presently under review. Presently, certain groups such as secondary school students and senior citizens can ride the transit system at reduced rates. The lower cost to these groups is absorbed by passengers paving full fare. Aid. Ralph Hall called the con- cession fare policy ‘‘excellent,”’ but said the reduced rates should not apply to any more groups. But Ald. Stella Jo Dean said one way to Save money on transit is to get more people to use the system. “One way to do this is to put an extra surcharge on gasoline,’* she suggested. “By getting cars off the road by THE SHELL has shut on the Great North Vancouver Clam Chowder Championship. Ald. Elko Kroon agreed: “If we were to increase the charge on gasoline, this wouldn’t be so hard on our pocketbooks,"' he said. ‘1 think there has to be an increase in surcharge because people are not leaving their cars at home."’ “The thing we have to look at is a third SeaBus,’’ Ald. Dana Taylor told council. ‘‘The only way | would give consideration to municipal levies (to subsidize tran- sit) is if there is improved service, especially to the North Shore.”* 687-3000 * 687-2808 ASO dapipese Ct ee Specialties Seoul House Garden Restaurant Fine Cuisine Elegant Decor “Some of the best cooking in the city under any label — different and very good.”’ Menu or Smorgasbord at noon Open 11:30 am-1:00 am Daily Fully Licensed, Groups to 250 FREE PARKING EVENINGS, WEEKENDS & HOLIDAYS ~j------- T-GEORG i A-B------- L tL Hotel R Vancouver TTR-AL BiRNT-R I. 0 A I W~ROBSON--1) Take Oni: ard Dewery Sennce 1166 Alberni (at Bute) Vancouver.
