The 52-year-old Lynn Valley res- ident was elected president at the Division’s annual general meeting held recently in Burnaby. The shipping company executive is no stranger to the Red Cross. Ten years ago, he joined its Van- couver Branch as volunteer chair- man of blood donor recruitment. Since then, he has been active in aany Red Cross activities. For the past two years he has been vice-president. Says Turpin: ‘‘I initially joined the Red Cross because, as an im- migrant, (from England) I was looking for something to con- tribute to my new country, I chose Red Cross because my parents-in- law had been given blood in opera- tions and that seemed to be a good place to start.”’ He added: ‘‘Red Cross was also the first volunteer organization to ask me to help.’’ In business, Turpin is vice- president and general manager of Canadian Transport Company, a shipping company owned by MacMillan Bloedel Ltd.. .
