The company. served notice Friday that it wall lock out emplovees at midnight tonight as the result of con- tinuing dispute over a new contract. The key remaining dispute between the company and the Council of Trade Unions on B.C. Rail is the question of the size of crews on train and vard crews, with the company seeking to decrease that number from three to two. The contract covering the B.C. Rail employees expired in February of this year. While both sides in the dispute have reached general agreement on the question of reducing train crews, the method of instituting the program ~— and the question of what workers will receive in return for the changes in manning ~— remain unresolved. B.C. Rail, which has said it will allow the question of cutting back the crews to be settled through = attrition, says that the demands being made by the unions in return for their agreement are not reasonable. ““We don't like doing this (serving lock-out notice) — we know it will cause in- convemience to our shippers, supphers and employees,’ operations throughout the province tomorrow as the com- pany moves toward locking out its 1,800 union- AS5 - Sunday, December 2, 1984 - North Shore News NorTH SHORES WHEELCHAIR EXPERTS. could be shutdown Wheelchairs 842 West 15th Street North Vancouver, B.C Phone: 988-5566 (24 hrs) Brian Foley, vice-president ot industrial relations, said Friday. **But in order for us to continue providing a reli. able, efficient) and = com- petitive service, it’s vical that a reduction in train and yard crews forms part of a collec- tive agreement. ”’ CALL CLASSIFIED TAN BEFORE YOU TRAVEL Whether you're planning your winter vacation or you just want to look & teel great. come ex. penence the warm relaxing pleasure of our high quality JK sunbeds.
