Al0 - Sunday, August 29, 1982 - North Shore News inquiring reporter ee by Ellsworth Dickson I heard a news report this week that some parents are concerned that the new video games that are so popular with the kids promote violence because most of the time the idea is to blast as many spaceships, aliens, or people as you can. In fact, these violent video games are rapidly replacing the old pinball machines with the flippers. Today’s questions is: ’"Do violent video games have a bad effect on children?”’ Kent Greenwood West Vancouver I do think that some kids spend too much time in video arcades. Many things a child sees on the ordinary TV are not good for him. TV can be a great teacher, but a lot of it is baloney. I think moderation in playing video games is the best approach. You’ can overdo anything. Paul Mulock North Vancouver I play violent video games. I don’t think of violence or killing when I'm playing them. It's fun and just a game of skill. I don’t see how these games could hurt children. Mark Forsythe North Vancouver 1 think the kids take out their frustranons on the video games.
