‘Truck flips

A BURNABY man has been charged with two counts
under the Motor Vehicle Act after the brakes on his
dump truck failed while travelling along 5th Street in
West Vancouver on Monday, causing his velticle to flip
onto ils side.

The accident also sent a huge boulder in the back of
the dump truck rolling down 15th Street, before it finally
struck a parked car.

West Vancouver Police Department Const. Jamie Gib-
son said Bhupinder Singh Prince Sidhu, 24, of Burnaby,
was driving south along 15th Street after having turned
off the Upper Levels Highway at about 2:30 p.m. when
he noticed *‘mechanical difficulties’? with his truck’s
braking system.

“In an attempt to escape the sieep grade of Sth
Street, Sidhu turned his vehicle onto a side street, The
momentum of the vehicle caused it to flip onto its side,"
said Gibson.

Sidhu was transporting a load of boulders and tree
stumps. The entire Joad was thrown from the truck when
the vehicle flipped.

Gibson said a Goulder, weighing about 500 pounds : .

Gibson said provincial motor vehicle inspectors were at
the scene of the crash on Mouday and had inspected
Sidhw’s truck to determine if a mechanical failure had
caused the crash.

As a result of the police investigation, Sidhu has now
been charged with failing to maintain bi.akes and making
a fuise inspection report.
