by Kirby Nixon, Grade 6 MY dad went to the same eiementary school that I go to now — Capilano. The school was actually builr in 1908. He went to the school from 1954 to 1961. I started in 1994 and now I am in Grade 5. When my dad was at Capilano there were 350 stu- dents, but only nine class- rooms. Each class had 40 to 45 studenis!’ The principal’s name was Mr. Loucks. He is now Mayor of... the City, of | North Vancouver, 7" ' . There was no rnusic room or library, but each class had their, own set of encyclope- dias... . s oo “There was'nG gymnasium until 1960. The students had their own Kindergarten class . dents. We have there but our adventure playground didn’t exist — it was mostly forest. When students got in trouble they were sent to the principal’s office and were strapped! Alot of things are dif- ferent now, We have 16 class- rooms.- Four classrooms are in portables. Today most kids are dri- ven to. school. There are always'a lot of cars around the school. In 1960 the wing where my class is was built. In the year 2000 we will have a new wing built onto our school. Capilano elementary school today has changed | & lot since Kirby Nixon’s dad went there in the 1950s. We will! have more class- rooms, a new iibrary and new computer rooms, and hope- fully a new playground. The school will be differ- ent than it was in 1954.
