towards scriptwriting A spring scriptwriting course is going high tech at Capilano College. According to course instructor Bill Van Laven, the pur- pose of the new Spring Seriprwriting Workshop (CMNS 138) is twofold: first, it provides ¢ mentored environment for exploring effective scriptwriting strategies. Second, it offers a venue for aspiring writers to test and apply their own cine- matic concepts. “It’s rare to meet someone trom this area who doesn’t have an idea fora film,” said Van Laven. “Che question is are they prepared to do the work necessary to frame their ideas into a producible and professional script? This workshop can represent a writer's first serious step towards breaking out.” A unique feature of this spring's seripowvriting workshop is that it provides the technology for North Shore writers to interact with their counterparts on the Sunshine Coast. “The college has a sophisticated teleconferencing link with writers at our Sechelt campus,” Van Luven explained. “Each night they'll join our workshop and brainstorm with us, Ics this interaction that drives the workshops, according to Van Luven, who added that while dramatic writing is es ~ : ~ .
