Police were acting on a noise complaint about the restaurant, which is logcted on 13th Street and Bellevue Avenue in the secand-storey location formerly occupied by the Granite Cate. West Vancouver Police Sgt. jim Almas said people in the restaurant, including scatt and customers, were drinking alcohol and a “party (was) taking place” when police arrived. Almas said scaif ar the restaurant had troubie finding the establishment’s liquor hvence. The restaurant should have stopped serving alcoho! at 2 a.m., according to_ its liquor licence. The party-goers left soon after police arrived. Almas said Liquor Control and Licencing staff was to look into the inci- dent. To press time, staff at the Liquor Contre! and Licencing were not aware of the incident. Ambleside Bistro co- owner Joe Perri said last week that there was nothing unusu- al about the police coming, to the restaurant on New Year's morning. Pern said he had heard the rumours that rhe restaurant had been closed down. “The rumours have been thing,” said Perri. He said ir was standard procedure for the Liquor Control and Licencing staff to leok into the incident. Perri said that restaurant manage- ment had planned well: in advance to close the restau- rant the following nights on Jan} and Jen. 2.
