Urban single-detached construction moved up 23.8% to 58,300 units while starts of urban multi- ple dwellings increased 5.3% to 44,000 units, in March relative to February. February starts were 106.900 units. “March numbers may be an indication that ‘there is some pick-up in demand,” said CMHC analyst Michel Laurence. “Builders remain cau- tious, given their inventory of new and unoccupied units.
