In his short life, Adam has had
four operations, Last October, he
had the roof of his mouth put in.

The hiker, Brian Beddow, 35, of
Vancouver, had been hiking alone
when he -was reported overdue on
May 21.-Beddow planned to hixe
‘from Mount Seymour to Mount
Elsay. Rescue workers located’ him
on the west side of Runner Peak,
north of Mount Seymour.

. Beddow suffered a severely frac-
tured ankle and rib injuries in a fall.
He.told rescuers. that he. could not
move because’ of his injuries,
according to..a. North Shore
Emergency Program spokesman. ~

Because of the difficult terrain, a

Adam can look forward to six or
seven more, operations because of
the deformity, which is a separation
of one or two sides of the lip that
often includes the bones of -the
upper jaw and roof of the mouth,
said Cameron.

The condition isn't painful. but
surgery is, she added.

Adam has now earned a. three-
year reprieve before he goes back to
the plastic surgery ward for a nose
job.

Cameron calls inquisitive and
outgoing Adam a shining example
of how well children .with cleft
palate can do.

‘That is important for new parents
of babies. with cleft palates. ;
Cameron said.

“It's great that (parents) can see a
future,” said Cameron, who is on the |
