A transit security guard heard the sound of
breaking glass. He ran down the bus-loop carri-
dor and saw Stavrey fall within 10 feet (3.04 m)

was outraged that nothing had been done after a

similar accident occurred in November /991,

» Pameroy’s mother, Annette, said her son had
received legal advice to proceed with a lawsuit
against ICBC, but no action was started, She said
warning signs should have been installed -after
her son’s accident.

But JCBC spokesman Rick Hyde said the
first accident did not prompt the corporation to
implement any safety measures because “we
thought it was an isolated incident. It was once
in eight years, and it seemed extremely unlikely

-that it would happen again.”

After the first accident the one skylight that
had broken was reinforced with metal strips. The
other two skylights were nat reinforced.

ICBC plans to replace all three skylights with
permanent planiers in the next four to six weeks.
In the meantime, the corporation is considering
erecting signs warning people about the danger
of climbing onto the skylights.
