even though she has been devoted
to Antonia since childhood.

Who can blame her? Antonia is
beautiful, tastefully appointed, and
assertive.

Jane hides behind duffte coats,
sensible shoes and offbeat choices
in men.

What Jane doesn’t know is that
Antonia is just as miserable — with
a wandering husband, a repressive
boss and a wild, anonymous kinky
lover whe turns out to be her
son’s schoolmaster.

“Oh, to be like Jane,’’ she con-
fides to her therapist, ‘a socially
aware intellectual.”

Of course, the two aren't op-
cosites at all. They even share
vivid, hilarious fantasies. Jane sees
her mother on TV announce a life-
long disappointment with her
‘daughter; Antonia watches a
guilt-produced movie starring

French resistance fighter.

From a popular Saturday Night
Live sketch, Mike Meyers and
Dana Carvey recreate the metal-
-head buddies, Wayne and Garth,
‘two misfits with a community ac-
cess show in Aurora, IHinois.

The little bits make this film fun.
The gratuitous sex scene is labell-
ed just that way. Mike and Garth
talk to the camera {but no one else
is allowed).

Alice Cooper enlightens his fans
about the origin of the word
Milwaukee (Algonquin for "the
great land’). Stan Mikita’s Donut
Shop is the place for power snacks
of glazed and honey-dips.

With Myers’ genuine appeal and
director Penelope Spheeris’ skills,
it’s surprisingly funny. It’s not Noel
Coward, of course. A sort of
upscale Bowery Boys for the ‘90s.
