The trap total is almost five times the number used on the North Shore fast year, when 170 were set in West Vancouver and the western portion of North Vancouver. Croy added that up to 1,400 traps could be set in the North Shore area depending on the even- tual scope of the Gypsy Moth hunt. Despite an intensive search ef- fort last year of well over 100 West and North Vancouver pro- perties that enlisted the help of North Shore residents, municipal workers and forestry personnel, Agriculture Canada investigators have yet to locate any Gypsy moth egg masses on the North Shore. The search this summer will be for male Gypsy Moths as they emerge from their cocoons in mid-July. Agriculture Canada began set- ting traps June 20 in an area bounded roughly by Edgemont Village to the cast, Cypress Bowl to the west, the Capilano water- shed to the north and Keith Road to the south. Croy said the current Gypsy Moth search on the North Shore is as big, if not bigger, than the eradication effort taking place in the Parksville area of Vancouver "NORTH SHORE HIGH TECH: 39 Island, the other West Coast loca- tion in which the destructive pest has been found. “This is a massive assault against the Gypsy Moth,"" he said. in addition to the traps being set by Agriculture Canada, traps will also be set by Greater Van- couver Water District personnel in the watershed area. Croy said traps will be monitored weekly. In October 1989, Agriculture Canada announced that it had found four male Gypsy Moths in See Moth Page 3
