[Just fou hid! Children’s choir launched at Capilano Coliege THE CAPILANO Children’s Choir, a new ensemble for children aged nine to 12 under the director- ship of well-known North Van- couver choral director Lars Kaario, was recently formed by the Capilano College Community Music School. “SA children’s choral ensemble is one of the best wavs for a child to get serious musical training,’’ says Kaario, who currently teaches choir and voice at Capilano Col- lege. ‘‘The marvellous thing about it is that choral singing is in- credibly stimulating and very good exercise. While requiring individu- al discipline within the structure of music, group singing returns to the child a spiritual and emotional benefit in a non-competitive set- ting.”” Kaario plans several perfor- mances throughout the year, in- cluding joint appearances with CAPILANO Children’s Choir director Lars Kaario ...singing is good exercise. other choirs. Kaario also has an extensive career as a . recitalist, oratorio soloist, and on stage in musical theatre and opera. The Community Music School is well established on the North Shore as a centre for music educa- -# tion for all ages, with the new choir augmenting the Kodaly, Orff, Pace Group Piano and private music instruction already offered.
