MAILBox Ald. Crist responds to attack Open letter to Patrick Bruskiewich You are a naughty fellow — the terrible things you say about me and, to top it all off, in the Sunday News. Really, Patrick, what particular branch of the local rip-off con- glomerate put you up to this? Or are you just a natural clown? Be that as it may, Patrick, let’s deal with your remarks point by point. Let it all hang out, as the saying goes. The first mistake in your letter is your claim that I attacked the In- ter-River Review Committee. Now, Patrick, I never did any such thing. You really need new glasses or a better coach. What I did say is that we owe the Inter-River Review Committee a collective vote of thanks for recommending that the entire in- ter-river area be used as parkland. Now does that sound like an attack to you? You really do need a new coach. Point two is your claim that I did not once go to any of the meetings of the Review Commit- tee. Give me a break, Patrick. ] am already jogging three times a week practising to keep up. How could I possibly go to those meetings when I was on a different council assignment? Don’t you know that a man can only be in one place at a time? But, if you think it so important, why don’t you ask the mayor why she did not put me on that committee. She has the power at will under the Municipal Act. Your third point was to question my statement that there was no need to spend $50,000 of tax- payers’ money on a report when more than a thousand people had already spoken ‘in no uncertain terms that they did not want us to tinker with that area. Yes, I was suspicious of coun- cil’s motives for setting up such a committee. Why? Can you believe that council once rezoned parkland for development because some old trees were rotting. Do you get the drift, Patrick? Have you forgotten that they tried to exclude the Save Lynn Canyon Park Committee from participating in the review commit- tee? Your lights should have gone on then. After all, it was the Save Lynn Canyon Park Committee which was the main force behind saving the land for park in the first place. Do you understand now, or have you never heard the story about the bird who looked like a duck, quacked like a duck, walked like a duck and really was a duck? These are some of the reasons I said what I did. But, be that as it may, the Inter-River Review Committee came through with fly- ing colors, as I knew they would, and everything is OK. Oh, and by the way, Patrick, do you remember our discussion on the pros and cons of economic twinning of cities and your confu- sion? Well, I looked at the map just to make sure and, you know something, Poland is definitely not on the Pacific Rim. Believe me, my map is accurate. So long, Patrick, and I'll see you at the ‘‘Patsy Demolition Derby”’ next November.
