NORTH Vancouver District Council is throwing its
support behind a national inquiry into the increased
numbers of nuclear-capable vessels visiting Canadian
ports.

municipal governments to ask the prime minister to
convene a public inquiry on the matter addressing the

Department of Defence records for 1985 show a
total 272 Canadian port ship-days for nuclear capable
U.S. warships.

Ottawa-based Operation Dismantle says the figure
represents an approximate 250 per cent increase over
the average annual number of visits for the 10
previous years.

A draft resolution for the district identifies more

‘supports no-nuke ports/

status.
