Rec Centre slides into cross-country

THE NORTH Vancouver
Recreation Centre’s Out-
doors Club is launching its
second season of cross-coun-
try ski touring programs for
North Shore outdoors en-
thusiasts.

Scheduled events include
weekend trips to the interior
and overnight trips in the
local mountains, says Out-
door Club organizer Brian
Prentice.

‘It’s a fantastic time for
anyone who has ever wanted

to experience the outdoors.
Most of the trips are day
trips to little-known but
beautiful areas of B.C. With
overnight trips, we usually
stay in cabins, though there
is some snow camping for
those who'd like to experi-
ence it.”’

Prentice pointed out the
overnight trips are designed
for all levels of fitness and
experience.

“Everyone is encouraged
to attend — from the begin-

ner to the most avid en-
thusiast. It's very easy to
learn,"’ he said, adding that
while designed to assist peo-
ple to appreciate the beauty
of the outdoors, and to en-
courage improved fitness,
the trips are very sociable
events.

Those attending should
bring along a good sense of
humor and be prepared to

meet many new friends from

the North Shore.
