One ex- pects from the name they’ll LCD i‘ . EER CAL a PNR SOON be colorful, and present a certain ‘underground’ humor, and this turns out to be the case. Scaffoldings, their fourth and newest show, is now playing at the Vancouver East Cultural Centre before \ \ i f é 4 3 ; moving on to the Olympic Arts Festival. Before the show begins you know it will be bizarre from the set lit- tered with junk and paraphernalia of a worksite. As the lights come up, the audience is given plenty of time to observe the tools, crumpled tarp, buckets, lockers, and junk before the comedy begins. The actors of the first scene are the machines and stray bits on the stage. One by one they start up, saw, drill, spray can, sander, hghts and buckets all have their own life and personality, and one is con- stantly on the lookout to see which piece will start up next. As the three human actors make their appearances they become the background for the amazing set. Dressed like workmen, Jos de Pauw, Pat Van Hemerlrijkc, and Dirk Pauwels, have little in common with normal workers, just as their tools have different ideas about their uses. The action is continuous as the actors move from mime to giberish, to song. There is little intelligible dialogue but there is a great deal of noise. After an evening of machine noises, loud music, and confused shouting more than one person seemed to be suffer- ing headache symptoms.
