Landfill opponents heading for Victoria

Handing petitions to ministers

OPPONENTS to landfill
dumping in North Van-
couver and throughout the
Lower Mainland will be
dumping their garbage pro-
blems on the doorsteps of

two provincial cabinet
ministers tomorrow
(Thursday).

Members of Citizens Op-
posed to Landfill Dumping
(COLD), neighbors of North
Vancouver's Premier Street
landfill, will be among a par-
ty of various residents’
groups dedicated to closing
landfills, who will be going
to Victoria.

They have arranged to
present a petition to En-
vironment Minister Stephen
Rogers and Municipal Af-
fairs Minister Bill Vander
Zalm.

couver District alleging con-
travention of the Pollution
Control Permit conditions
covering the operation of the
Premier Street landfill in
that they allege garbage
there was not covered daily
with topsoil on various dates
earlier this year.

The case is due to be
heard in provincial court in
North Van May 14.
