I found good and bad people everywhere. people.in India were too helpful! 1 would rather try to find. my own way than ask directions there - if you stop one person on the street, within 30 seconds you have throngs of people around, all giving different directions. In Bolivia the natives would rather give you wrong directions that admit they don’t know the way. The feel they are being helpful! QUESTION: How about food and water? How did you prevent food and water- borne flness? | ANSWER: Boiling the water, or adding a couple of drops of iodine will prevent diseases. India has chai (a spice tea) which is safe to drink because the water is boiled and it tastes nice. It is served in disposable clay cups in the train stations. Carrying your own cup is great when the cups ‘aren't disposable. It avoids contact with germs ' , «Lecal markets..are breat - ———— but soak fruit and veggies in I had all those. extra stops | « ' and you don’t have to rush to- return your cup before the train pulls out. In India, it is acceptable - and advisable - to eat with your hands, crude as it may seem. Hepatitis may bc spread through eating utensils. Wash basins in the restaurants are a common sight. Dysentery is a common occurrence travelling in the third world. It may seem to disappear after a while, but amoebas may still be in your system, so have it checked. m not talking about the mere runs, cither! Finding a decent doctor is even more of a hassle, but unless it’s hep or typhoid, you are well enough in a couple of days to ge on with the travelling. 1 would try everything, as far as the food goes, from a decent source. I loved the curry in India, but tired of it , for breakfast, lunch, dinner’ and gnacks!
