Contract settlement saves playoffs CONTRACT NEGOTIATIONS almost spelled the death of North Vancouver high school winter sports this season. But with a tentative settlement reached between the North Van- couver Teachers’ Association and the school board, job action af- fecting the high school sports schedule has been dropped and at least some of the playoffs will go HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS ahead as planned. In basketball, the West Van- couver Highlanders would have been the only team competing in the North Shore's Howe Sound “AAA” senior boys tournament. But playoff action started yester- day at West Van, with Carson Graham playing Handsworth and West Vancouver facing Argyle or Windsor. At the junior boys and juvenile and bantam boys and girls levets, sudden-death playoffs were orga- nized for North Vancouver teams still wanting to play.
