Bible belted out of schools Dear Editor: A dig thank you to Noel Wright for his brilhant article March 10, "A sure way to fall for anything.” He capressed so well what many of us are concerned about as we observe with dis: may the slow erosion and destruction of our Christiaa culture. Even the symbolic use of the Bible in on courtrooms is threatened, the book that for centuries has provided us with an infallible signpost for decent living and undergird- ed our value systems. Perhaps one of the saddest results of the elimination of our Chrisoan faith and) cul- ture is in our schools so that our children are deprived of the invaluable opportunity to he exposed ta some of the greatest literature ever written and to dearn about the Christian faith so gready val- ued by our Canadian pio NEETS. In those dave of difficult times and often a struggle for existence their fith was part of their litestwle and used by them and their governments to guide and direct. But now, slowly and telentlessly it is being driven out of our parliaments, out of our schools and our of our lives and we follow instead of hedonistic lifestyle. Is it any wonder that by our constant and increasing disregard: of God's laws and the famous summary of chem in the ten commandments, that we are seeing around us the breakdown of civilize Gon World history: points to the ther that when the human nee ignores God and his blueprince tor living, chaos and breakdown of moral rtan- dards prevail. Will we never leavin from our past mistakes? Joyce Coomber North Vancouver Happy iranian New Year Dear Editor: Happy New Year. Hsin Nien Khaile. For some reason, parents have the ex- pectation that their children should be good friends. Where did that come from? Did you get along perfectly with your siblings, or your parents with theirs? How many times have you heard about Uncle Harry who hasn’t spoken to Aunt Esther in years? My guess is our expectations have been influenced by the niedia. Look at our role models: The Brady Bunch, Fa- ther Knows Best, Eight is Enough. In those shows siblings were friendly enough to resolve their differences, if any, in thirty minutes. My theory won’t be proven until a generation of kids, watching the Simpsons and Rosanne, are raising tacir own siblings. It seems that sibling rivalry is a must, a normal part of life when there’s more than one child, and even teaches children important life skills. Seven tips to survive sibling rivalry: * Sibling rivalry is inevitable, parents waste a lot of emotional energy trying to prevent conflict. ¢ Parents’ overwhelming desire to be fair adds to the conflict. * itis not possible to treat all your children equally. 101 - 255 West 1st Street, North Vancouver 1410 Clyde Avenue, West Vancouver Cail 988-5281 or Fax 988-3961 ee pe North-Shoréis.g hon:profi to enriching. and strengthening family life on.the Nort * Children learn a lot about compromise by living with their siblings and it’s a valuable experience. — * Parents often take sibling conflicts more to heart than children do. * Parents should aim at modelling good ways for children to relate to each other and not gei tangled in the centre of every sibling dispute. ® [tis natural for chiidren to compete for their parent’s favour.
