The woman was on the dance floor of the popular Lower Lonsdale night spot when a large man shoved her. She shoved back and continued dancing. The next thing she knew, she was struck on the side of the face with the mug, Broken glass cut her face in several places, just missing her eve. ar She wanted to protect her identity because her assailant has yet to make a court appear- ance. While her mishap could not have been prevented by the best-trained staff members unless they happened to be near the scene, extra training is nevertheless a step in the right direction. To that end, Montana’s Sports Bar recently hired NSC Nightclub Security Consultants, who spent a vunday afternoon with the bar’s staff. The six-hour session covered a variety of topics including the legal liabilities of club employees and verbal rac- tics used to diffuse liquor-laced situations. “They've got a good grou of staff members there, they're reasonable,” said Rob Allison, co-owner of NSC. 50% Off Cellular Shades Choose from our ent Carousel. As a result, the Sunday session focused on everything but the physical side of enforcing bar rules, “There's nothing we can really do in a six-hour seminar that would help them (staff) in a physical situation,” said Allison. Montana’s manager Kim Graham called the session ben- eficial. “I think every door man we had learned some- thing,” she said. As for the dance floor inci- dent, the woman’s assailant will appear in court later this month. He had also cut himself in the aliercation and police caught up with him as he was in the process of getting first aid at Lions Gate Hospital. 4” Why feel. good... ° ae ae a 8000s.
