Almost a year after its inception the Special Needs Adoption Demonstration Project (SNADP) has announced that 22 children are currently receiving counselling by adoption workers. Some of these children are ready for placement in permanent homes. “tn spite of the problems and fragile beginnings, such as emo- tional and developmental dif- ficulties or histories of neglect or abuse, these children have already proven to be tenacious survivors,’’ explains Judy Archer, coordinator of the SNADP. The project deals with youngsters over two years of age who ha.. emotional, physical or mental haudicaps, as well as with sibling groups, children with histories of abuse, neglect or multiple placements, and infants with moderate to severe medical problems. SNADP is planning ‘‘a massive recruitment campaign to enlarge our bank of special needs adoptive homes,” says Archer. Approx- imately 17 families have already been involved in the home studies with project staff, which take place after the potential adoptive family has gone through an orientation program. Archer is extremely pleased with the progress of SNADP to date, considering it only started in November of 1987, That was when the North Shore Family Services #99512 THE BLOOD DONOR $29.95 (approx, 90 mins.} Anthony Hancock - the dad himsell - in 3 classi¢ shows trom his unsurpassable BBC television senes.
