Local cookbook sales benefit goo d causes | THE PARENT councils of North Shore schools are the first group to be targeted by the aggressive new marketing strat- egy for the bestselling cookbook Fast and Fantastic. _ The book, now in its third prin- ting, was put together entirely by volunteers for the North Shore Family Services Society (NSFSS). The parent councils were invited to a tasting session on Nov. 4 to sample some of the recipes in the book, become familiar with the NSFSS organization and learn about selling the cookbook. The cookbook committee, Sue Bauman and Cathy Sabiston, or- ganized the marketing strategy for this fall. The first step was a glossy promotional pamphlet. “It got a little expensive giving out copies of Fast and Fantastic every time we needed to promote it so we made a brochure,’’ com- mented Bauman. ‘‘We decided to distribute these pamphlets to the parent councils initially because they always need to raise money, for gym equipment or whatever, and selling Fast and Fantastic is a great way to do that. Funds raised from the sale of the books will be Premium quality Beautyrest bedding sets now HALF PRICE. NSFSS at 988-5281. NSFSS hopes to extend this fund-raising idea to other interest- ed organizations. While raising money for its own needs, the par- ticipating group will be supporting the many community services of- fered by the NSFSS, a LInited Way member agency. BALLOT In 1981 Council zoned the Municipally owned 3.5 acre (1.6 hectare) parce! of land at the southeast corner of Taylor Way and Marine Drive for highrise use with a majority of the site to be landscaped open space. A principal objective was to generate revenue fur Municipal purposes by leasing this land. It has now become necessary to ask the citizens of West Vancouver for their opinion on whether this land should be used to generate revenue for the Municipality or for some other non-revenue generating use, such as park. Question One: Do you favour use of this 3.5 acre parcel of Municipally owned land to generate revenue fc: the Municipality of West Vancouver? Question Two: If this 3.5 acre parcel of Municipally owned land is to be used to generate revenue for West Vancouver, do you support residential highrise use? The result of ihis referendum will have important financial and aesthetic impacts on West Vancouver. Therefore it is vital that al) residents eligible to vote: 1. Inform themselves on the facts before election day. 2. Cast their ballot on November 19. Information may be obtained in the following ways: 1. The Municipatity has prepared an “INFORMATION SHEET” which summarizes the rele- vant facts and the arguments both for and against. This can be picked up at the Municipai Hall or mailed in response to request. Call Planning Department at 922-1211. 2. Phone 922-1211. = IMPORTANT NOTE The Municipality has entered into an agreement to lease with Newcorp Properties. If the referendum passes, it will be a direction to Council to proceed with the agreement. If the referendum is defeated, it will be a direction to Council to withdraw from the agreement. In the case of withdrawal, there would be a significant loss of annuai rents, taxes and fees plus the over $10 million in prepaid lease payments to the Municipality. In addition, Newcorp may take legal proceedings which could result in financial liability to the Municipatity. This is an important decision for West Vancouver.
