Teachers ‘funded
CARE campaign’

Dear Editor:
The team of Oliver Baker,
Margie Goodman, Nancy

Huot and Ross Regan thank
all our supporters across the
North Shore for their dedica-
tion and time during the re-
cent election campaign. Con-
sidering that we were in con-
tention with a teacher-funded
CARE campaign that was
designed to influence the
election of their employers,
our efforts turned out very
well. Ross Regan is re-elected
and Margie Goodman 1s con-

testing fourth place in a
recount.
We assure the residents

that we have no vested in-

terests and we will continue
to work on behalf of students
to stop politics in the schools,
to hold open and televised
School Board Meetings, and
to provide accurate informa-
tion on school and education
matters for parents and
residents. We want the input
from all parents and with
your support for our efforts,
we cannot fail to achieve
positive results that will
benefit our students in North
Vancouver schools.

1 would hke to publicly
thank the RCMP of North
Vancouver for coming to the
assistance of my daughter
and myself on July Sth, 1984.
Because of their prompt
reponse and the assistance of
two young civilians, a man
who indecently exposed
himself to my daughter, was
apprehended.

The RCMP, through their
Victims Assistance Program,
answered my queries and of-
fered support. They also
directed me to an organiza-
tion called Citizens United
for Safety and Justice This

victim of crime and have

Arms freeze
the priority

Dear Editor:

On Oct. 26 you published a
letter on unilateral disarma-
ment. Somehow, people
forget that each new
hydrogen bomb or each new
Trident submarine is a
unilateral armament. This ts
a very dangerous as well as
expensive game.

Since the United States
made and used atomic bombs
in 1945, it has imituated
seventeen wholly new
destablizing weapons
systems. Sometimes it took
years before the U.S.S.R.
managed to develop the same
but inevitably they followed
and thus the massive threat ts
turned against the inventor.

We can argue that the Rus-
sians have been foolish to try
to keep up with the U.S.
military but they are pro-
bably prisoners of the same
outmoded patterns of
thought that we suffer from:
fear, irrationality, and
primitive reactions are at the
root of the deadly race that
will destroy the planet and all
hfe on earth.

We don't have to have
unilateral disarmament to
make a safer world. All we
need 1s a stop to unilateral ar-
mament such as The Cruise

Missle and the ‘*Star Wars”
plan. We need a freeze
