SCHLAGE LOCK SITE
Residents don’t like plaza plan

residential groups at a
public meeting held
Monday by North Van-
couver District Council.

The proposal, which would
see the construcuon of a one-
storey shopping plaza with a
Save-On Foods grocery store
and a commercial building,
would be erected on the pro-
perty formerly occupied by
the Schlage Lock Company.

The site is located on the
north side of the 1200 block
Marine Drive, between
Bridgman and Pemberton
Avenues. The unopened
Shaw Street road allowance
and the Pemberton Bank
border the rear of the proper-
ty. The Schlage Lock
buildings are currently in the
process of being demolished.

At issue at the = public
meeting were the concerns of
several homeowners on West
I7th Ave. that traffic from
the shopping plaza develop-
ment would create havoc on
their residential streets.

Wayne Howell, a resident
on West J7th said he 1s
‘“*somewhat disturbed’’ that
Council would entertain a
proposal which would allow
traffic to empty out onto
residential streets. He added
the large numbers of children
in the area could be in danger
if they played on the heavily
travelled streets :
