At the height of last year’s Hallowe'en floods the creck carved a new channel above their property and the rushing debms-laden waters ripped away the retaining wall which Doug had spent all summer building. It also gouged huge chunks between five and ten feet deep the length of his backyard And now every morning Doug and his wife check to see if more of their property has crumbicd away into the creek. They dread heavy rainstorms and lic awake at oight listening as the water carnes rocks and boulders crashing down beside their home The creck never returned to its onginal bed the water tall vanished the redirected waters arc aow shooting directly at thetr backyard steadily croding it and away soid Doug The couple whe have o 16 month-old boy Mark and are capecting a secon child, are afraid a child may end up drowning in the creek if something isn't done soon. Among the groups that wont get funded this year are the Lower Lonsdale Information Centre, the North Shore’ Information and Referral Society, the North Shore Intermediate Care Society, the Living and Learning Centre, the Cruisers Summer Swim Club, the Save St. Paul's Indian Church, the North Shore Tenant's Association, and the SPCA. But many other groups will receive money from the City, including the Big Brothers and the Big Sisters. the North Shore Crisis Services Society, North Shore Family Services and the Salvation Army. Neighbourhood House gets the largest grant, one of $19,000. Council approved the grants with no debate Monday.
