FROM PAGE A1 But a check call by the North Shore News to the local assessment office last week determined that the court of revision had already declared its decision — which had been reserved al the time of the previous week's appeal hearing — in favor of the assessor. Deputy Assessor Calvin Smyth said: “The decision has been made and the land figures have been confirm- ed, with minor adjustments which were made.” As agreed at the appeal hearing, assessment staff and City staff will work together to agree discrepencies over the land sizes of some of the properties detailed on the assessment roll. MINOR IMPACT But Smyth said that he did not think the size differences pointed out by City would make any material dif- ference to the taxes of City homeowners. “Some (of the industrial land assessments) will go up and some will go down but it would not be a great im- pact.” City Mayor Jack Loucks had not been informed of the panel's decision, prior to be- ing called by the News, and expressed surprise that he had not heard before the press. In spite of the City being refused what it had re- quested, Loucks was able to see a positive side of the Situation. “It would seem to me that if what the court has done 1s confirm the present assessments it is better than 955 Park Roy what has happened sometimes in the past when people have gone to appeal and the values have been lowered.” Loucks did not rule out the possibility of City seek- ing a rematch, stressing that such a decision would have to be made by council after careful consideration. “We don't (waterfront assessments) are think they industrial high enough and we presented evidence we thought con- [] et ¥ we oY : SO vp a al South ( Rhassenn is pleased to announce the Grand Opening of his Hair Salon on March 1st .
