A19 - Wednesday, February 10, 1982 - North Shore News EE Community round up Deep appreciation of the work carried on by volunteers was recorded by Robert Pooley, president of the North Vancouver Bran- ch, Canadian Red Cross Society, at the annual meeting held January 28 at St. Andrews Church Hall. He also tendered sincere thanks to the North Van- couver Kiwanis Club who had shown interest in the work of the Society by donating $3,000 for Assistance International and Domestic (A.I.D.) and the Loan Cupboard from the Kiwanis Foundation. Annual reports read by committee heads showed stepped-up programs in all} departments with more volunteers than ever. Mrs. A.W. Charlton, chairman of A.I.D. (women's work) filed a report showing this group had had a highly successful year. Two bazaars at Capilano Mall, two. bake sales at Westlynn Mall and two bazaars at Park Royal netted Red Cross $2,460. A total of 3,283 pints of blood was donated last year at the Lions Gate Hospital blood donor clinics under the co-ordination of Evelyn Bryan. This represents a 26% increase over 1980. Mrs. F. McVickar’s report showed schools and mattis (Capilano) accounted for another 701 pints, ccn- stituting a gain of almost 800 pints in 1981. It was a year of achievement in the North Vancouver Branch Blood Donor Service with five donors giving 75 pints of blood. Eight received their 50th certificates, 37 gave 35 pints each and hundreds earned 20, pins. Wallis Hosken, Emergen- cy Service chairman, reported that Red Cross per- sonnel are involved with the Registration and Enquiry Committee under the leader- ship of the co-ordinator for information services on the North Shore in case of a disaster involving more than 25 people. 10, and 5-time This committee attends to the registration of evacuees in the event of a disaster and accepts enquiries from relatives and friends of miss- ing persons. During 1981 basic planning by commit- tees responsible for atten- ding to any disaster on the North Shore continued on a regular basis. Frank Hampton, Disaster Chairman, reported that Red Cross had not been called upon last year on the North Shore. Mrs. Ed. Williams com- mended North Vancouver volunteers who devoted 9,722 hours to carry out the expanding programs. Five volunteers were honored with Canadian Red Cross awards in recognition of their continuous _ services over the past years. The volunteer chairman record showed the blood donor ser- vice and women’s work ac- counted for most of the total hours. The sickroom Loan Ser- vice continues in full opera- tion and is widely and ap- preciatively used by the whole community. Dona- tions have kept up well from people using the service which supplies wheel chairs, crutches, walkers and other sick room items, reported W. Stewart, chairman.
