Be eu eager TPE FIOCKEY SEASON OPENS The Flames skate to four straight wins THE NORTE Shore Winter Club Flames opened regular season play of the 1989-90 West Coast ‘Junior Hockey League schedule, skating to a hard-fought 5-3 win over the Seattle Northwest Americans, Saturday night at the winter club. And for the Flames, who went undefeated in their three exhibition games, any doubts about the value of coach Fred DesRochers’ tough pre-season conditioning regimen should now be dispelled, especially after Saturday’s encounter with the speedy, rough and tumble Seattle team. Seattle opened the scoring with a short-handed goal just three and a half minutes into the game for a 1-0 lead, which they held until the period's dying seconds. But with only six seconds re- maining, Scott Gordon convei ted some hard work along the boards by Brad Costa and Wade Bartok to net the equalizer with a blister- ing shot from thirty feet out.
